School holidays are around the corner and I’ve been dreaming about a winter getaway for the family. I’m a sucker for scrolling through online accommodation listings and first read about Afristay.com on a blog a year or two ago. When they approached me to review their site, I was totally up for it and I must admit that I spent a silly amount researching local accommodation options for my wishlist last night.

Did you know that Afristay.com is home grown? It was created by South Africans for South Africans and they employ over 50 full time South African staff too. Although their website is really straight forward to use and fully responsive for mobile, what sets these guys apart as a service provider is that users can pick up the phone and speak to a consultant at any time. Some of us like talking on the phone while others of us really don’t, but it’s nice to know that the booking process can be a personalised experience if you’d like it to be that for you. Afristay also offer really competitve rates as there is no guest booking fee.

I’ve selected some wishlist weekend destinations and am going to share them with you in a minute. I’m a pretty fussy researcher and during an online search I can close that window with the speed of light if the couch looks uncomfy or if the art on the wall doesn’t sit right with me. Anyway, I’m telling you this because the three options below have passed the ‘Julie test’ and so I recommend that you click on the hyperlinks below as soon as you’ve entered the giveaway.

1. Tumbleweed Cottage in McGregor

This beautiful farm house sleeps six, has a fireplace for winter and a pool for summer plus the rate is R1250 per night for a minimum of two nights for a couple. I’ve put this as my first choice option because it’s decent value for money for a family (there is an extra fee for additional guests/kids) and because I’m so excited that we’re heading here for a holiday review next month so watch this space!

2. Rest@Chabivin Self-Catering in Stellenbosch

Gosh, another gorgeous spot. Rest@Chabivin is nested in a beautiful eucalyptus forest on a boutique Stellenbosch wine farm, a few hundred meters outside Stellenbosch in the famous Blaauwklippen valley. What’s not to love about a unit that sleeps 6 but is also on a farm that specialises in the production of sparkling wine. It also has a fireplace so it’s perfect for a winter getaway. You can book this unit for R2000 per night.

3. Port of Call in Simonstown

And then last but not least, if you can slip away for a night without the kids then Port of Call in Simonstown looks perfect. It’s R1000 per night for a room with a super king bed AND includes breakfast. Hint, hint, husband.
