Legend has it that on this day, exactly one week before the beginning of summer, Greek mathematician, scientist and scholar, Archimedes, discovered while taking a bath that an object’s volume could be accurately measured by being submerged in water! Unable to contain his excitement, Archimedes leapt out of the bathtub and yelling “Eureka, Eureka!” as he ran through the streets of Syracuse, Greece.

Bath time has always been a highlight of the day in our home and I look forward to it too because despite the inevitable wild splashes (and sibling squabbles), the kids are contained and they’re getting clean! It’s a fun, watery play pen. Our kids love playing with their plastic tea set and they have an assortment of bottles for decanting and pouring. Water play is a great way to learn the basic properties of physics such as empty/full, float/sink, heavy/light, and cause and effect all while having fun in the tub.

These days, Yookidoo, continues to celebrate Archimedes’ excitement and discovery with their fun line of bath toys that keep learning and exploration afloat. You can shop their colourful range at Baby City, Hamleys and online at Loot.co.za or Takealot.com.

Yookidoo has supercharged our bath time for us with this Muscial Duck Race bath toy. It’s rad. It says on the box that it’s for 6-36 months, but my almost 5 year son has declared it a ‘big boy’ toy so we’ll leave it at that. Firstly make sure that you have 4 x AA batteries on hand – this was a close call for us as I’d foolishly told the kids about the new bath toy and then had to run around the house pulling batteries from remotes. When you switch the toy on, the toy draws up water which causes the ducks to magically chase each other around the water track. Each duck can be placed on top of the fountain outlet for different spray effects and if you press and hold the leaf lever there are different random sound and water effects. Don’t worry Moms – you can mute the music!

Warning: Kids may not want to share this toy.
