If you have outdoorsy, fun-loving, adventure-seeking kids like ours, then you HAVE to make a plan to visit Boschendal as a family. Go through for the morning to grab a takeaway coffee and deli treats while the kids enjoy free play at The Tree House playground and bring the bikes to hit the the mini pump track (no charge if you bring your own bikes but there is a bike rental option). This is for kids age 4+.
If you’d like a some time to go for a meal or do some wine tasting without the kids, you can book them in for the supervised Outdoor Programme for day visitors or overnight guests to enjoy free-range fun on the farm, while learning about nature and sustainability. My kids joined two sessions this weekend – they did a Foraging & Harvesting Activity and a Survival Skills & Shelter Building Activity and horse-riding with a bit of chill time watching nature documentaries on the projector screen in between. They LOVED every second of the fresh-air fun and can’t stop talking about what they got up to. They came home with pockets stuffed full of lemongrass, rosemary, stones and hiking sticks adorned with feathers and fell asleep the minute their heads hit their pillows. This is childhood at its absolute BEST and it makes my heart so happy.
The sessions are 10-12pm, 12-2pm & 2-4pm and you can book them in for a session or for the full day. The cost ranges from R165-R220 for day visitors and in-house guests have some complimentary and some paid options. They also have birthday party options! Pre-booking is essential as numbers are limited. Click here to view the daily programme on offer.
Kira said ‘Boschendal is like Heaven’ and I have to say it’s probably pretty close. 10/10. We were lucky to stay over at The Orchard Cottages and it was such a spoil. Nestled at the foot of the Simonsberg mountain, the luxury farm cottages ranging from one to four bedrooms, all equipped with kitchenettes beautifully stocked with Le Creuset, outdoor dining areas for braais, a large communal swimming pool and a magnificent setting among the Boschendal fruit orchards. Each cottage is thoroughly santised before arrival and we received a welcome box of treats from the farm and Deli plus some activity books for the kids.
Boschendal is truly a beautiful place with something for everyone! Quickly, add it to your must-visit list!
